Home Sweet Home

I'm home again. the trip was safe and fast. my head is still spinning though from the changes, both in location and in my life. more on that later.
so, in the last 24 hours i have heard three people say that they don't like to answer their cell phone, but like to let it go to voicemail. that's interesting to me cause i don't remember that being a trend when i left two months ago. is it a trend? why do people like to do that? maybe it's cause they are lazy. maybe they don't like to talk to people. maybe, like me, they need time to think about a response to a question that may be asked, so they listen to the message and then call back after thinking a bit. i just came back from the Philippines where everyone has a cell phone that they use for mostly for texting. so i wonder if texting will become more common here in the U.S.? the only difference is that the reason for texting in the Philippines is that it is cheaper than calling. i hope texting does become more popular here in the States.

I don't like texting. There, I said it. An ocassional one is okay, but otherwise I'd rather not take the time to punch in the numbers. A voice is better most of the time.

See ya tonight. Glad to hear your plane didn't crash.

As far as I know, I don't think that it's a trend to let your calls go to voicemail but I have heard of people screening calls, but personally, I never let that go past caller ID. Those people are probably just too busy with work or something... Is my brother one of them? haha I know what you mean about texting though. It was the same way for me in Japan, and for the same reason--it was cheaper to text than to call. And the thing about texting is that it's super convenient. You can text somebody when you can't talk on the phone--like in the middle of a movie, from work, on the train, in other words, when it's inconvenient or inappropriate to talk--and the coolest thing of all is that you can get your one question answered without having to have an entire conversation. That sounds bad but it's the truth. When you really need to call you can call, but why call when you only want to ask, "Can you bring a six-pack of Bud with you when you come over tonight?" I'm with you all the way, Matt. And I would make texting the next craze if it weren't for the ten cent surcharge! I will keep my fingers crossed though....

Hey, once again, welcome back and conrgratulations on the big news! Hopefully, we'll see you again sometime soon.

Hey, Matt. How are you doing? I know that it's always a really big adjustment coming back from an extended overseas trip with all of the reverse culture shock issues--answering machines, cell phones, and so many other countless things--and considering where you left your heart and all, it can't be easy. I totally know what it's like. I do hope that you're getting back into life in the US and doing all right though. I'd definitely like to hear more about your trip and how it's changed you. That's really one thing that I love about travelling--it changes life as we know it over and over again.

But hey, I think you were talking about text messages so why don't I comment on that? ;) It's funny that mention that everyone in the Philippines sends text messages in place of calling, because it's exactly the same in Japan, and for the same reason, too! It's cheaper, and if I may add, so much better!!! I mean, there are times when you want to say nothing more than, "Hey, can you bring a six-pack of Bud with you when you come over tonight?" Right? And what more convenient way of saying this than texting! Instead of working around our schedules--the times in which we can and cannot talk--texting allows us to communicate at ease. When we have to talk, then we can talk, but instead of getting wrapped up in conversation... and without going on about texting because I really shouldn't be talking about it this much, I'll end by saying: if it weren't for those terrible ten cent surcharges for texts, I'd be all over it, baby!!

Oh, shoot!! Matt, I totally thought that the comment that I wrote you the other day, that I wrote it in vain and it disappeared for some reason. But it's because you monitor the comments, huh!! I just say a caption at the top of my screen that said something to that effect.... haha Well, you'll just have to pick which comment you like and go with it. Aight?

hey guys. yeah, i think if texting was free then it would be alot more popular here. ten cents adds up fast, so don't do it. (unless of course i'm texting overseas.hehe thank you yahoo) i think that text can be more convienient, but does take a little more work to type it all in. unless you practice and get good at it.
thanks cory, i'm still catching up with life here in america. more of that in my next blog. see ya soon.
